Job Title: Political Director
Summary: The Political Director is a new position that will help advance the Missouri Chamber’s political program to ensure the business community’s voice is amplified to voters. The Political Director will work with the Vice President of Governmental Affairs to develop a comprehensive and year-round strategy for the Missouri Chamber Political Institute, including fundraising, research, coalition building, endorsements, independent expenditures, ballot measure activity, political giving, voter education, data management and candidate recruitment.
Job duties:
- Lead all political activity to advance the Missouri Chamber’s mission. Establish and foster relationships with candidates, businesses, local chambers, associations, PACs and political consultants.
- Lead political fundraising efforts, including setting and achieving goals through prospecting, donor meetings, and coordination of all fundraising events. Serve as the hub and central advisor for the business community on statewide political activity.
- Manage political budgets in close collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Governmental Affairs.
- Serve as the organizational point of contact for current and prospective political candidates.
- Create and implement robust multi-modal electoral and issue-based campaigns and oversee the work of any external political vendors.
- Manage all polling activities, including political, issue-focused and member-based polls. Work with Marketing/Communications to publicize specified polling results through written communication, video and social media.
- Develop and lead candidate recruitment and training initiatives.
- Regularly engage political donors with year-round updates and information on political activity and intel.
- Manage Missouri Ethics Commission (MEC) reporting for all of the organization’s affiliated entities in close collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Governmental Affairs. Stay abreast of all political-related MEC rules and regulations. Work with the Missouri Chamber’s attorney to ensure compliance.
- Assist in communicating key political activity to members through writing, video and audio to increase member engagement in political work.
Job requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least 2-3 years of political experience; direct campaign fundraising experience required
- Excellent public speaking and written communication skills
- Experience analyzing legislation and regulations
- Works well in a collaborative team environment
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with Missouri Chamber members, candidates, elected officials and external organizations
- Ability to remain organized while managing a diverse campaign portfolio in a fast-paced, ever-changing political climate
