Starting on June 1, Missourians who participate in the Chamber Benefit Plan will be able to utilize a new benefit called a Health Payment Account (HPA). Created by Paytient— a Columbia, Missouri, based technology company— HPAs offer plan members the ability to access and pay for health care by smoothing out of pocket expenses over time.
This collaboration means members can seek earlier treatment, diagnostic care and medications vital for chronic condition management before their deductible is met. In a 2024 survey of Paytient users, 54% of respondents said that they would have skipped some or all care without their Paytient card. The card can be used to pay both medical and pharmacy costs, and each transaction can be turned into a personalized repayment plan with no interest or fees.
Paytient will be available to nearly 45,000 Missourians through the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Chamber Benefit Plan. Members will gain access upon their renewal date starting June 1, with additional members gaining access on September 1, 2024, and March 1, 2025. The Chamber Benefit Plan provides health insurance to small- and mid-sized employers through a multiple employer welfare arrangement (MEWA) model. This model enables small businesses to join together and share in the overall claims risk by being part of a larger self-funded pool.
“We are incredibly proud to partner with Anthem and the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry, here in our home state, to help more Missourians more easily get care, improve their health and avoid preventable financial harm,” said Paytient’s founder and CEO, Brian Whorley. “We thank them for their leadership in recognizing it’s no longer enough to insure against catastrophic care— we must ensure access and an easier way to pay for everyday care whenever members may need it.”
Paytient has maintained a 90+ Net Promoter Score (NPS) and 4.9 stars on Trustpilot with glowing reviews. This experience creates value for employers as 64% of Paytient user respondents reported feeling more likely to keep their job and 92% were more satisfied with their health benefits overall.
“We are excited to partner with Paytient to offer this added benefit to nearly 4,000 covered groups,” said Brendan Cossette, plan administrator for the Chamber Benefit Plan. “Members tell us frequently how the Chamber Benefit Plan has stabilized and reduced their insurance costs while offering great coverage for their employees. This valuable partnership will further improve our members’ physical and financial health.”
The Chamber Benefit Plan is offered across Missouri to businesses with 2-50 eligible employees and administered by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Missouri.
“Anthem is proud of our long relationship with the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and we are committed to innovative solutions to encourage members to access the health care they need, when they need it,” said Anthem president Stephanie Vojicic. “Paytient’s HPA is the next generation of financial tools that can help keep members in better control of their health care.”
