Statement on Senate Joint Resolution 39

The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry opposes Senate Joint Resolution 39.

We oppose adding a constitutional protection for employees who refuse to do their jobs.

The Missouri Chamber worked with legislators to amend the legislation to protect employers from the increased litigation this resolution may cause. The Missouri Chamber offered amendments that would have removed the business community from the effects of the resolution.  These attempts were unsuccessful.

Despite the technical changes in the resolution, the Missouri Chamber cannot ignore the detrimental impact this would have on our state’s economy.

For these reasons, the Missouri Chamber opposes Senate Joint Resolution 39 in its current form and will continue to work with legislators in both chambers to allay the concerns of the business community.
