Missouri Chamber continues to move legislative priorities forward

A resolution to alter the initiative petition process was passed this week by the Senate after a weeks-long stalemate. SJR 74, sponsored by Sen. Mary Elizabeth Coleman (R-Arnold), would modify how many votes a proposed constitutional amendment would need to pass.

In the 2024 legislative session, progress in the Senate has been stalled by repeated filibusters. While dysfunction has stymied legislation on the Senate floor, the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry governmental affairs team has successfully advanced several legislative priorities through the committee process in both the House and the Senate.

“We encourage lawmakers to come together for the betterment of our state,” said Kara Corches, vice president of governmental affairs for the Missouri Chamber. “Several of our top legislative priorities, including child care tax credits for businesses and child care providers and a package to comprehensively combat crime, have already passed the House. We appreciate the business champions in the legislature who are committed to making Missouri an even better place to live and work.”

The Missouri Chamber continues to advocate for the business community on these critical needs:

  • Supporting safe, affordable, high-quality child care options
  • Legal reform, beginning with a modified statute of limitations in personal injury cases
  • Addressing Missouri’s rising crime rate and improving public safety
  • Defending against government overreach and job-killing business mandates
  • Clarifying worker’s compensation law to allow employers to maintain drug-free workplaces
