Free on-site safety consultations available through state program

Is your business worried about workplace safety? Are you concerned about hefty fines from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)? Administered by the Division of Labor Standards in the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, the Missouri On-Site Safety & Health Consultation Program can help! This free program is designed to assist small businesses, specifically those having fewer than 250 employees on-site and no more than 500 employees nationwide, in identifying and correcting potential safety hazards in their workplaces.

You can learn more and sign up for a free inspection at https://labor.mo.gov/dls/onsite. A team of experienced safety consultants will visit your workplace and conduct a comprehensive safety and health inspection, looking for the very same violations which OSHA would penalize. However, with On-Site Safety & Health, there are no citations issued. Instead, the consultants will provide you with a detailed report outlining any hazards they find, along with recommendations for corrective actions. The program is completely voluntary, and your participation is confidential.

Participants in the On-Site program reduce the risk of workplace accidents and injuries, avoid costly OSHA fines and qualify for SHARP (Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program) certification. SHARP certification can lower workers’ compensation insurance premiums and provide up to three years of exemptions from OSHA’s general inspections. The average OSHA fine for serious hazards is now $4,735 per hazard. To find out more about the SHARP program, visit labor.mo.gov/dls/onsite/sharp.
