Missouri Chamber Annual Meeting focuses on drivers of business growth

The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry recognized business leaders and lawmakers helping advance our economy during its Annual Meeting in Springfield on November 17.

U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt was awarded the Missourian in the Arena Award, the Missouri Chamber’s highest recognition for elected officials.

This award was created to give special recognition to an elected official who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to protect Missouri employers. It is named after a famous quote by President Theodore Roosevelt:

“The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena…who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”

“Sen. Roy Blunt has long been at the center of Missouri’s efforts to grow jobs through his years in public service and especially in his time as U.S. Senator,” said Missouri Chamber President and CEO Daniel P. Mehan. “There has been no stronger advocate for Missouri employers and workers in Washington D.C. He never shied away from tough decisions. Missouri is a better state because of his tireless efforts.”

Other public officials, community leaders and businesses who were honored during the event:

  • Bass Pro Shops – Champion of Enterprise Award
  • Sen. Lincoln Hough – Legislative Spirit of Enterprise
  • Rep. Dan Houx – Legislative Spirit of Enterprise
  • Sen. Karla Eslinger – Legislative Freshman of the Year
  • Rep. Alex Riley – Legislative Freshman of the Year
  • The Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau – Chamber of the Year

The Missouri Chamber also inducted its new board chairman, Brad Thomas. Thomas is the president of Silver Dollar City Attractions. He will serve a two-year term.
