The Show-Me Scholars & Tech Masters initiative is a community-based approach to raising academic achievement and career readiness among high school students. The program is built around a course of study that encourages students to take more demanding classes in high school.
- Provides a program to develop school-to-work partnerships in the community
- Empowers local professionals to mentor students in work-based settings
- Promotes local business career paths to students and parents in community
- Directs focus on industry strengths of the community and region
- Proactively develops the talent pipeline for today and tomorrow’s recruitment needs
Local chambers of commerce lead community business leader engagement and partnership with the local school district. Through the program, students are introduced to local career pathways with area employers and provided with a clear set of academic and career preparation guidelines. Business mentors from the community provide guidance to students throughout high school, which provides an education that better prepares students to enter a technical school, community college, a university or the workforce.
As an added bonus, students who successfully complete the program are eligible to apply for a scholarship from the Show-Me Scholars & Tech Masters Scholarship Fund for their post-secondary education. Many chambers also partner with their business community to create local scholarship funds for students graduating the program.
A joint effort of school districts, local chambers of commerce and the business community, the Show-Me Scholars initiative is a proven way to show students the importance of challenging themselves for their future continued education and careers.
