Missouri Chamber to launch statewide internship portal

Posted on

According to the Missouri Chamber’s Missouri 2030 strategic plan, there is an acute shortage of skilled workers in our state today. This has become the number one problem for employers in Missouri. In addition to employees acquiring the right skills, more opportunities for work-based learning are needed to ensure that today’s students can achieve success when they graduate and enter the workforce.

Toward that purpose, the Missouri Chamber has been developing a new service that will make it easier for students to connect with internship opportunities.

Later this fall, the Missouri Chamber will launch Missouri Intern Connect with support from the MU Extension Business Development Program and the University of Missouri System. This new online service will give students a simple, easy way to find internships across the state. The platform is based on a hugely successful program in Indiana that is used by thousands of businesses and students.

“One of our Missouri 2030 workforce goals is to expand relevant work experience opportunities throughout our state’s education system. The creation of Missouri Intern Connect is an important action item toward that goal,” said Daniel P. Mehan, Missouri Chamber president and CEO. “A high-quality internship provides a valuable bridge between student life and a rewarding career pathway. We want more of Missouri’s students to have those hands-on learning opportunities and discover how their skills translate to the workplace, and that’s what this online service will help to do.”
