License flexibility for physicians
On March 29, a Senate committee heard testimony on Senate Bill 300. This legislation adopts the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, which allows eligible physicians to receive an expedited license to practice in all states that are members of the compact. Bill sponsor Sen. Mike Bernskoetter (R-Jefferson City) said this compact was first adopted by seven states in 2015; now, 31 states are participating.
The need for a highly mobile health care workforce was underscored during the pandemic. Allowing skilled professionals who are already licensed in another state to come to Missouri and enter the workforce is a legislative priority of Uniting for Recovery, the Missouri Chamber’s COVID-19 economic response agenda.
“Our rural areas need better access to health care and this bill will help see they get it,” said Bernskoetter.
SB 300 now awaits the committee’s vote to proceed.
