The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry applauds House lawmakers for passing HB 2596, legislation that expands access to affordable health coverage for Missouri’s small businesses. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Peggy McGaugh (R-Carrollton).
HB 2596 modernizes statutory language and clarifies regulatory standards for small business health plans. The updates strengthen pooled employer health plans already serving tens of thousands of Missourians — including the Missouri Chamber Benefit Plan.
The Chamber Benefit Plan allows small employers with 2 to 50 employees to join together, giving them access to large-group style benefits and more stable costs.
“Access to affordable, high quality health coverage remains a top concern for the business community,” said Kara Corches, president and CEO of the Missouri Chamber. “We consistently hear from small- and mid-sized business owners who describe the Chamber Benefit Plan as a gamechanger for their workforce. It’s a proven model that lowers costs and helps employers attract and retain talent. We appreciate Rep. McGaugh’s leadership on this issue and House members for their unanimous support.”
House lawmakers passed HB 2596 by a 145-0 vote. The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
