Senate approves water infrastructure upgrade bill

Posted on

On Thursday the Missouri Senate passed SB 44, a bill that would allow water and wastewater management providers to upgrade and repair systems proactively.

“This saves ratepayers money. If you are going to replace a valve and you don’t have the ability to raise the capital to replace the valve now, when you replace it in the future it will cost more,” said bill sponsor Sen. Bill White.

The Missouri Chamber has been advocating for the change, as it would ensure these vital services will continue to be able to meet the needs of the state’s businesses and residents.

“We certainly recognize the advantage of having both reliable and affordable water systems overall in the state in both retaining our businesses and residents as well as attracting new ones,” said Missouri Chamber Director of Legislative Affairs Kara Corches.

Next, the SB 44 will go to the House for consideration. You can track progress on this and other business legislation with our new Legislative Tracker tool — simply go to our Policy Action Center and select View Key Legislation on the right side of the page.
