Seeking to continue Missouri’s progress on utility modernization, the Missouri Senate has passed a bill with several important regulatory updates.
In recent years, the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry has helped pass a number of bills aimed at ensuring Missourians can continue to benefit from reliable and affordable utility services.
A long-needed grid overhaul law was passed in 2018. Then last year, lawmakers tackled legislation needed to speed wastewater repairs and expand access to renewable natural gas and other renewable energy sources.
Building on this progress, the legislation passed this year by the Missouri Senate includes a number of important provisions that would help spur investment to modernize utility infrastructure and ensure energy remains affordable, reliable and resilient.
The provisions are included in Senate Bill 756, sponsored by Sen. Bill White, a Republican from Joplin. The bill received strong support in the Senate as it was passed 23-5.
The House version of the bill was also heard in the Senate Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection, Energy and the Environment. House Bill 1734 is sponsored by Rep. Michael O’Donnell, a Republican from St. Louis, and was previously passed by the House of Representatives by a vote of 100-42.
The Missouri Chamber has a long history of supporting improving infrastructure, including utility infrastructure.
